Scripture: Ecclesiastes 1:1-11
Speaker: Jeff Hill
More than ever, it seems, people are seeking the “Meaning of Life” and to “Make a Mark” in hopes that their life matters. The author of Ecclesiastes would tell us this has been going on since humanity first questioned God’s reality.
“There is nothing new under the sun”. (Eccl 1:9)
Humans are meaning making creatures. Though we are from dirt like the animals, yet we are the image bearers of God, filled with the breath of God. He has set eternity in the hearts of humanity. (3:11) We want to know” why” and “why not”. Since we have been given life by a choice made for us, how do we value and utilize this blessing of life and not squander it away?
Many kids think meaning comes from being an “Influencer”. If you don’t know what that is, ask a teen. Though the term is new, the intention is not. We want our lives to matter. We try to find ways of leaving a mark on the world to be remembered/valued. What if the ways we try to do this, through effort and money, doesn’t achieve that goal of having a long reaching impact that says, “I’ve been here and my life matters”.
