Scripture: Matthew 5:27-30
Christian biopsychologist William Struthers issues a challenge: Without seeking it out, “[s]ee how long you can go without viewing or hearing something that has clear ties to the sex industry.” The same author elsewhere mentions countless students visiting him during his office hours, confessing “that they felt trapped by their inability to stop consuming pornography.” It is an unfortunate reality that marriages fail, at times because of sexual infidelity.
Jesus gets to the heart of the problem: “anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Lust is not an issue that plagues one gender, and it is something that all people—single and married—must guard against. The gospel can transform wrong desire into right desire.
