Scripture: Judges 2:1-15
Speaker: Jeff Hill
As you read the first two chapters of the book of Judges you will find a double introduction. Where have we seen this before? Genesis chapters one and two also has a double introduction. God’s commitment to humanity, and the nation of Israel, begins with great hope then quickly disintegrates when humans allow external tests to become internal tendencies to seek the easy way in life through human wisdom. The culmination of Judges is summarized by this statement in the double conclusion 17:6; 21:25 “Everyone did what was right in their own eyes”. In preparing for worship we need to assess our hearts and actively work to minimize any tendency for quick fix spirituality that seeks only to numb pain and hinders commitment.
