The Southside Church
Serving God and You
Southside History
The
Southside Church began in 1958 as an outreach of a north side
congregation to reach out to seekers on the south side of the
Milwaukee metro area. After temporarily meeting in Cudahy, a building
was erected in 1962. The congregation grew until it was able to
appoint elders in 1975. Another milestone was reached in 1992 when a
fellowship hall and classroom addition was built to handle our ever
increasing needs. We look forward to continued growth as we continue
to do the Lord’s work in Milwaukee.
Worship
Our worship periods are times for praise and thanksgiving. Their focus
is on God and His relevance to our lives today. Our intent is to
glorify the Father, Son and Spirit for the great things They have done
in our lives. Our worship includes singing, prayer, the public reading
of scripture, the taking of the Lord’s Supper, and a study of God’s
Word. A freewill offering is also taken, but visitors are not expected
to participate. We welcome your presence any time we gather to
worship.
Missions
Acknowledging that the gospel is for all the world, we are
actively involved in missions. A sizable percentage of our budget is
dedicated to those serving on the mission field both in this country and
abroad, as well as to missionaries in training.
Bible
School
In order
to be a good servant, one must understand who the Master is and what
He expects. That is why we emphasize the study of His word, the Bible.
To address this need, we offer Bible classes for children of all ages,
as well as classes for adults, every Sunday morning at 10:00. We want
you to feel free to join us as often as you can.
Home Study Groups
Because we reach out to so many parts of the metro area, we at
Southside break up into Bible study groups during the week. Our
purpose is not only to learn more about God’s word, but to grow closer
to each other. These are informal gatherings in which everyone is
invited to participate. Visitors are always welcome to study with us.
If you would like to attend, please call the church office for the
time and location of one near you.
Transportation
For those
who would like to worship with us but need a ride, we strive to
provide whatever transportation is needed. For help with this, please
call the church office.
Community Outreach
The
Southside church makes a concerted effort to help those in the
community around us. A major part of this is our annual "Give-Away" (a
free rumage/garage sale) in
October. If you know of any people who might benefit from this, please
let them know about it. If you have any items you would like to donate
to our give-away, we would be happy to pass them along to those in
need.
Church
Leadership
The Bible
teaches that the only head of Christ's church is Jesus Himself, but that
He has given each congregation of His body the guidelines for
appointing its own leadership in the form of shepherds, wise men
responsible for the spiritual health of the church. Southside's
shepherds or elders are shepherds of the flock to whom we look for
guidance and direction.
