The Sick – Elfriede Wandsnider was
scheduled for hip replacement Wednesday at St. Luke’s Hospital….Suzanne
Roberts’ father, Glen Roberts, is in St. Joseph’s Hospital with pneumonia.
Travis McMillion is entering the air
force
and left for Lackland Airbase in San Antonio, TX, Monday. We wish him God’s
blessings while he is in the military.
For a number of years Hawley
Publications has had a display of Bibles and religious books in the
fellowship room during the holiday season. There will not be a display this
year, but those who are interested in purchasing Bibles and religious books
at a discount should see Monroe or Julia and they will be happy to try to
meet the need.
A Commendation. Last
Saturday 25 or 30 adults and children helped moved Sarah Chukka to her new
condominium. This is at least the fifth time recently that our members
have responded to a call for help in moving someone to a new location. Each
time the numerical response has been overwhelming. We are thankful for the
servant attitude that expresses itself in this way.

“I
Believe the Bible, Too”
She believed that Christians
should worship God on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, and expressed the
conviction that if you believe the Bible, you must believe this. She also
implied that to reject this view means that you don’t believe the teachings
of the word of God
I pointed out that I, too,
believe the Bible. However, since there is a distinction between the old
and new covenants, I do not agree that the seventh day ought to be our day
of worship. In other words, my rejection of her interpretation of the
Scriptures did not amount to a rejection of biblical authority.
I have often read articles
that implied that if one did not accept the writer’s position on a given
issue, he was rejecting the authority of the written word. This is loose
thinking into which we all sometimes fall – the drawing of a conclusion
unsupported by facts. It is conviction without evidence.
You see, one can disagree
with another person – yes, and even be seriously wrong – without denying
biblical authority. The lady who thought I had rejected the Bible because I
don’t believe that Saturday should be our day of worship is, in my opinion,
wrong in her understanding of the word of God. But I would not and could
not charge her with rejecting the authority of the Scriptures for she
constantly appealed to them to support her position. I think she
misunderstood the Bible, but she did not reject its authority.
Let’s not equate different
interpretations, even erroneous conclusions, with rejection of the authority
of God’s word. There are people who frankly deny that the Bible is
authoritative. But when one goes to the Scriptures to support his position,
let’s not charge him with not believing God’s written revelation.

Wreckers
I watched them tearing a
building down,
A gang of men in a
busy town.
With a ho-heave-ho and a lusty
yell,
They swung a beam
and a side wall fell.
I asked the foreman, “Are these
men skilled,
As the men you’d
hire if you have to build?”
He gave a laugh and said, “No,
indeed!
Just common labor
is all I need.
I can easily wreck in a day or
two
What builders have
taken a year to do.”
I thought to myself as I went
my way,
Which of these
roles have I tried to play?
Am I a builder who works with
care
Measuring life by
the rule and square?
Am I
shaping my deeds to a well-made plan,
Patiently doing the best I
can?
Or,
am I a wrecker who walks the town,
Content with the labor of
tearing down?
