27 SOUTHSIDE ORACLE September 12,
2003
Parent to Parent
2000
Parent to Parent 2000 is a
video/discussion seminar designed to help parents of children of all ages in
raising their families. It was held at Southside in January and February
with great success and is soon to be repeated. Four sessions will be held
on Saturday evenings in October and November, each session lasting about two
hours. We plan to offer the program as a service to our community and Bruce
Williams will direct the canvassing of the area. He will need help in this
and those who attended the sessions earlier this year can be especially
helpful in relating to others the benefits of the program. Whether you
previously participated or not, see Bruce if you would like to assist. If
you would like to be a part of the upcoming sessions, see Daryl Miller or
John Giemza. Descriptive brochures are available.

Confess Your Sins
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another
and pray for another that you may be healed” (James5:16).
It has been said that confession is good for the
soul. It is – in more ways than one! For one thing, it cleanses the soul of
its sin. “If we confess our sins, he is willing and faithful and just, and
will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Confession is good for the soul in that it
cleanses the conscience. Nothing is quite so painful as a aching
conscience. The conscience torments until its dictates are obeyed or it is
crushed. Once broken it no longer warns of impending danger.
Confession should be as broad as the sin. If my
sin is between God and me, confession to him, coupled with my repentance,
is enough unless I feel the need of telling another, or perhaps of asking
him to join my prayers. If my sin is against another person, I must confess
to him as well as to God. If he will not accept my confession, there is
nothing more I can do and my conscience should be at ease. If my sin is of
public knowledge, my confession should be to the church that I have
reproached. This takes courage, but living for Christ is itself
courageous. Not only must I confess to the church, but I must also confess
to God who knows my thoughts. I can be sure he will forgive and cleanse my
conscience. __Monroe Hawley
