Vol. 46, No. 25                         SOUTHSIDE ORACLE                      August 29, 2003

The Bulletin Board

New Fall Bible Classes – September 7th will be promotion day for our children’s Sunday Bible classes.   It will also mark the beginning of new classes for the adults that will continue until the end of the year.  Bobby Valentine will teach “A Study of Christian ethics,” Monroe Hawley will teach “Discovering Our Spiritual Roots” (the influences through the centuries that have shaped our spiritual thinking), and Wayne Alexander will teach a study of “The Book of Galatians.”  The start of this class will be delayed until October 5th.  From September 7 – 28 Daryl Miller will teach a class entitled “Instilling Faith” designed for our youth and their parents.  It will deal with our youth ministry and how families can work together to make it a success.

Tween Activity – The interest among the tweens (pre-teens) is exciting. Wednesday of last week 23 tweens and six adult chaperones had an overnight at the church building.  It was a great success.  They learned something about astronomy as they looked at Mars with the help of Bobby Valentines’ telescope.  The large number of tweens and their interest in bringing their friends to tween events bodes well for the future as they will soon be our teenagers.

Attention Young People – York College will sponsor Fallhall Days at the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp September 5 - 7.  This is a youth rally program.  See the bulletin board for details.

The annual Labor Day Encampment is this weekend at Fallhall Glen.

Our fall Give-Away will be Saturday, October 11th.  Denise Eppler will direct it, but lots of help will be needed earlier that week in sorting items to be given away.  Items to be donated can be brought after Labor Day.  Clothing should be clean and household items should be in good repair and workable.  Please do not bring things that have to be repaired before they will work.

Daryl Miller will preach Sunday evening.

The 40th annual Midwest Preachers’ Retreat will be at Fallhall Glen September 22 – 24.  Michael Armour of Dallas, TX will be the featured speaker and will have five presentations dealing with the book of Acts.  The retreat is open to everyone and we had several from Southside who attended last year.  If you have an interest in the retreat, see Monroe Hawley for details.
