men.”

Encourage One Another
“.
. .not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging
one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Hebrews
10:25).
Hebrews 10:25 has often been quoted as proof that Christians should not
forsake the Lord’s day worship. In citing verses of scripture, we
sometimes overlook the reasoning found in the passage.
In
this case the biblical writer prefaces his comments on attendance with the
statement, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love
and good deeds" (verse 24). Though this is not the only reason for our
mutual worship, it is a most vital one. Consider:
1.
Your assembly with fellow believers encourages other members of your
family. Your children are watching you. You can send them and stay home
yourself. That is better than their not going at all. But your absence
discourages them. What will they say about the training you have given them
when they grow up?
2.
Your faithful attendance encourages your associates whom you hope to teach
about Jesus. Others are watching you! You influence them for good or bad.
If you do not worship God regularly, they will question your sincerity.
3.
Above all, the worship and study you have with your fellow Christians
encourages you. You can help them, but you are the greatest beneficiary.
Why should you “go to church”? Because you need the moral strength it will
provide you in your daily walk. You can’t live the Christian life in
isolation!
