SOUTHSIDE ORACLE April 18, 2003
Additional Deacons Sought
The elders announced
Sunday that they are seeking additional deacons to serve Southside. The
term in the Greek New Testament that is rendered “deacon” in our Bibles
designates one who serves. It is applied in a broad sense to anyone who
fulfills a servant role (all Christians should serve) and is sometimes
rendered “minister.” It is also used to identify a special group of
Christians appointed to carry out specific tasks (1 Timothy 3:2; Philippians
1:1). We currently have nine men who are entrusted with directing different
phases of our work.
The Biblical
qualifications of deacons are found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. In the next week
or so the elders will present the names of several men to serve in this
capacity. Before they are formally appointed our members will be asked to
give their input as to their Biblical qualifications. If there are no
scriptural objections, they will then be ordained to serve the congregation.
The Bulletin Board
The Men’s Retreat
at Camp Matawa last weekend was a fine success with 25 attending.
Ten young people and
adults attended the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp youth rally at Fallhall
Glen last weekend.
The Sick – Lisa
Gustafson left Sunday to go to Cleveland where she is scheduled for
additional throat surgery this week….It was good to have several of our
members who have recently been hospitalized with us for worship Sunday.

One Adjustment Needed
The young man was vainly
working on his Model T Ford trying to make it run. Finally, a new
automobile stopped and a well-dressed man told the would-be-mechanic to make
a certain adjustment in the timing of the engine. Reluctantly, the young
man did so. “Now,” said the man, “your car will run.” Sure enough the
engine started. Surprised, the young man said, “But how did you know just
what to do to my car to make it run?” Quietly the other said, “I’m Henry
Ford. I made the car. I know all about its workings.”
There is an adjustment
that your creator would have you make in your life if it is to run well. He
would have you give him first place in your life to and return to his word
and worship. In the words of the Psalmist, “Give unto the Lord the glory
due unto His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness” (Psalm
20:2). What a difference this one adjustment could make in your
life. __Selected
