Southside Web-site – For some time Southside has had a
web-site, but it has not been kept up. It is now up and going! Daryl
Miller has spent many hours setting it up. It gives information about
who we are and activities of the church. The address of the web-site
is: sside-church.org. Check it out!
Parent to Parent 2000 – Our first sessions of the highly
successful Parent to Parent video/discussion series has been
completed. We plan to begin another series of workshops for other
parents soon. This program is open to all parents whether they have
any association with Southside or not. There is no cost. If you know
someone who may be interested, pick up one of the brochures in the
foyer or contact Daryl Miller or John Giemza. The series will be
offered the first and third Thursdays of April and May (April 3, 17,
May 1, 15) from 6:30 - 8:45 p.m.

Of Crows and Men
A crow is a crow is a crow –or so it seems! We have lots of
them in our neighborhood. About the only thing that distinguishes
them from one another is that they vary in size. Were we not
birdwatchers we probably wouldn’t even notice that.
Some years ago we spotted a crow that was different. He had a
distinct white streak on each wing. After a while we didn’t see him
much, but later he became a community resident. We saw him regularly
within a couple blocks of our home.
It occurs to me that “Whitewing” was to the crows like dedicated
Christians are to the rest of mankind. Our bird friend was noticeable
because he was different in just one respect. I wonder what other
crows thought about him. Committed Christians are also like other
folks in most respects. They eat the same food, live in the same
houses, and generally dress the same. They shop in the same stores
and work in the same places.
However, in their lifestyle they are different. They don’t
curse and they don’t laugh at dirty stories. They don’t lie and they
don’t steal from their employers. They don’t get drunk and they don’t
run around with other person’s mates. They take time to worship God
and to study his word. They serve God through the church and help
others as opportunities and means afford. And by and large, they are
happier people than those neighbors who march to a different beat.
No, these folks aren’t perfect. Like everybody else they make
mistakes. Sometimes they do things we just said they didn’t. But
they keep trying because they are following the footsteps of the One
who has shown them the way. The world notices their lives because
they are different – and wonders! Are you one of these
people?
