ORACLE November 16, 2007
The Bulletin
Board
The Senior Dinner last Saturday was
attended by about forty seniors. Twenty of our young people participated in
the serving and the program. Our thanks to the youth and the adults who
helped them, especially Laurie Giombi, for this splendid expression of
thanksgiving.
We extend our condolences to the Rick Wagner
family in the death on November 3rd of Rick's brother, Mark
Mayberry. Daryl Miller conducted a graveside service Tuesday. This has been
a very difficult year for the Wagners as Rick lost both of his parents
earlier this year.
The Christian Workers' Meeting
will be Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. The speakers will be Justin Mooney of Rosholt
and Monroe Hawley. The program is open to everyone and a number of our
members regularly attend.

Don't Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes
will,
When the road you're trudging seems all
uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are
high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must - but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow –
You might succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faltering man.
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor's
cup.
And he learned too late, when the night
slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt –
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest
hit -
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't
quit.
"And Be Thankful"
Many of us are familiar with the origins of
Thanksgiving Day. In 1621 the Pilgrims, by way of expressing their
gratitude to God for their blessings, initiated this observance and invited
their Indian friends as guests.
The observance of a day of thanksgiving has
a Biblical precedent. The Feast of Ingathering was observed by ancient
Israel at the end of the fruit-harvest in the fall. For seven days the
people lived in shelters made of branches as an agricultural thanksgiving.
It was also a reminder of their tent-dwelling days while they wandered in
the wilderness after the exodus.
Paul enjoins the Colossians, "And let the peace of
Christ rule in our hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And
be thankful" (Colossians 3:15). There is a relationship between peace of
mind and thanksgiving. We will not have peace with God unless we first count
our blessings. So as we observe Thanksgiving Day in a few days, let us not
only enjoy the turkey, but let us truly express to God our thankfulness for
the multitude of blessings we all enjoy.
