Southside Give-Away
For many years the
Southside Church has hosted a Give-Away. This year it will begin at 9:00
a.m. on Saturday, September 13th. For those of you unacquainted with the
Give-Away, each year our members and friends donate items that are assembled
in a giant "rummage sale" except that nothing is sold and anyone can take
any of the thousands of items that are brought. It is open to everyone and
hundreds of community people will come to share what is offered. Next week
our members, mostly ladies, will spend hundreds of hours in sorting items in
preparation for the Give-Away. Denise Eppler is directing the program.
Donated items can be left in the basement of the church annex, room B3.
Creatures of Habit
We are all creatures
of habit. I realize this every time I reach to fasten my seat belt when I
sit in the church pew - or when I stoop down to tie the laces of my slip-on
Hush Puppies!
It is good to be habitual. Otherwise I
would have a tough time typing the words of this article. In fact,
virtually one's entire life is a continual re-enactment of habit patterns.
Habits are hard to
break. It takes conscious effort to do so. The smoker who decides to quit
may find breaking the habit of reaching for a smoke harder than dealing with
the addiction.
When one chooses to
accept Christ he makes a decision to break some lifelong habits. He now
develops new spiritual habits regarding his speech and the conduct of his
life. His decision to worship God with his fellow Christians at stated times
becomes a habit. Followers of Jesus do not stop to doubt whether to be
honest or to tell the truth. They don't have to. You see, as children of
God, this is their habit. What kind of habits do you have? Monroe
