Hills Arriving
This Week
Jeff and Holly Hill and their two children are arriving from Pasco, WA this
weekend as Jeff begins his work with Southside as minister of the gospel. To
give them time to get settled, Jeff will preach his first sermon on August
12th. They have housing arranged. Before moving to Washington, Jeff preached
for church in Tomah for thirteen years. He is well known and respected in
Wisconsin. We look forward to a profitable relationship in his work with us
at Southside.

Church Offices
Re-arranged
You have doubtless noticed that changes are being made in several of our
offices. The usage of several rooms is being changed and improvements are
being done at the same time. Daryl Miller's office has been changed from
room 6 to room 5. This has been completed. Room 5 will be the new church
library that has been sharing space with the church office. This was made
possible by opening another basement classroom. Room 7 will be the new
church office, providing badly needed extra space for equipment and storage.
Room 8 will become Jeff Hill's office. Our thanks for all the work making
these changes possible to Otto Mageland and John Giemza who have done the
bulk of the work. The help others have contributed is also appreciated.
"Destroy Not
With Thy Meat..."
"For the
kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and
joy in the Holy Spirit" (Romans 4:17).
In this
passage Paul declares that meat and drink (the details) are not the essence
of Christianity. Some Christians had become overly concerned about
eating meat with the result that they were missing the main part of the
gospel. The apostle does not say that meat and drink are unimportant or
should not be discussed at the appropriate time. Rather he declares that
they should not overshadow the more important things.
Some of
us are so prone to argue over the details that we miss the main point.
Methods are important and ought to be examined in the light of God's word,
but they are "meat and drink," not the heart of the gospel message. If I
object to a method of doing the Lord's work, perhaps correctly so, let me
not be so concerned with my objection that I fail to do the work itself. If
I do I have allowed the "meat and drink" to obscure the fundamental. It is
possible to spend so much time discussing the "meat and drink" that we don't
have time to win souls to Christ. "Destroy not with thy meat him for whom
Christ died" (Romans 14:15). Monroe Hawley
