The Bulletin Board

Senior Dinner - Our young people will again host our seniors at a Thanksgiving dinner this Saturday at noon. Laurie Giombi is coordinating the meal preparation. This is a splendid way to bridge the "generation gap" in our Southside family.

The Sick - Elfriede Wandsnider had back surgery at West Allis Hospital on Tuesday. She has been suffering from back pain for many months and hopefully this will improve her condition.... John Dickson is now home from the hospital after surgery last week for a fractured kneecap following a fall. He was able to be with us Sunday on crutches and will be laid up for several weeks.... Al Gray had a new pacemaker installed Monday and is doing well .... Michael Sturomski has a tumor that will be removed, but the surgery is being postponed for several weeks .... Martha Sepulveda had surgery at St. Francis Hospital last Friday for a bleeding ulcer. She has gone home from the hospital, but is still dealing with quite a bit of pain.

Guest Speaker - Wayne Hawley, an elder of the Oakhaven congregation in Oshkosh, will preach for us at both morning services Sunday. Southside is Wayne's home congregation and we look forward to having him with us again.

Bobby Valentine is on vacation this week.

Moving - We will miss Allen and Amanda Saunders and family who have just moved to Tomah. Contact us for their new address.

Picture Board Day - In the foyer at the side entrance we have two picture boards with the pictures of our families. Quite a few families do not have pictures and we want to encourage them to have them taken. Cliff Copass will take pictures for posting this Sunday, November 19th. If your picture isn't on the board, come prepared to have your picture taken that day.

Elders/Ministers Retreat

For the second year the elders and ministers had a planning retreat last Friday and Saturday at Port Washington. We reaffirmed our vision statement for the church that was adopted a year ago. It reads, "The Southside Church is - A Family of God, rooted in Scripture, loving God and others. "

Extensive discussion centered on ways in which greater involvement of members can be achieved and how we can become more evangelistic as we reach out to our community. Southside has many positive things to offer as a congregation, but it was agreed that we are far from realizing our potential as a Christian family. We hope to challenge the congregation in the year ahead to achieve these goals.

Carrying a Brother

The crossing was muddy, the street was wide,

The water was running on either side,

The wind whistled past with a bitter moan,

As I made my weary way along.

In crossing the street I chanced to pass

A boy in the arms of a wee toddling lass.

"Isn't he heavy, my sweet little Mother?"

"Oh, no!" she replied, "He's my baby bother!"

The load may be heavy; the road may be long,

The winds of adversity bitter and strong;

But the way will seem bright if we love one another,

And the burden be light if we carry a brother.
