The Bulletin Board

Vic Kurmis was found dead in his home Sunday. He had had periodic blackouts and it is presumed that his death was related to such a circumstance. As this is written the specific cause of death is not known. A native of Latvia and a naturalized citizen, Vic was baptized into Christ in 1992 and had been a member of Southside since that time. He was also a member of the study group that meets in the Hawley home. He had no living relatives in this country and Southside was really his family. Because of the circumstances of his death, funeral arrangements have not been made at this time. We will make every effort to notify our members when they are comp

Combined Worship and Congregational Meeting - This Sunday, October 15th, we will have a single morning worship service at 11:00 a.m. There will be no service at 8:30 a.m. Bible classes will begin at 9:30 o'clock. There will be a sandwich lunch after worship followed by a congregational meeting at about 1:00 p.m. There will be no evening worship because of the congregational meeting.

Congregational Give-Away - Our annual "Give-Away" begins this Saturday, October 14 , at 9:00 a.m. Our members, especially the ladies, have been working all week to sort out and display the thousands of items that have been brought to give away to anyone who can use them. We will have many community people who will visit us to share in this program. We can use help in preparation, during the Give-Away, and in cleaning up afterwards. See the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

Moved Away - Susan Carlson has moved to Texas. Contact us for her new address.

"Don't Talk to Me!"

Have you ever heard these words? Of course you have. Maybe you have even spoken them yourself. Sometimes we talk this way when we are irritated. Possibly we aren't willing to listen to an explanation. Perhaps we will not forgive.

There is another time we speak these words. That is when we are told we are wrong. No one wants his mistakes pointed out, especially when he knows he is wrong.

To say, "Don't talk to me!" about some things is unimportant. Unfortunately some folks have this attitude when eternal matters are at stake. They are living lives they don't want to be reminded of. They would rather continue their sinful ways and try to silence their inner beings. They don't want their consciences prodded.

Likewise, some of us don't want to discuss our religious convictions. We don't want our faith upset by unsettling questions. They threaten our security. We would rather be wrong and ignorant than have our tranquility disturbed.          But truth is not changed by declaring, "Don't talk to me!." If we value our souls we will take time to listen to others when we are asked to examine our convictions in light of the word of God.                      __Monroe Hawley
