19 SOUTHSIDE ORACLE July 7. 2006
Dominican Republic
Service Trip
From July 12-19 a group
of twelve people from Southside will travel to the Dominican Republic for
weeklong service trip. During this time we will conduct a day Vacation Bible
School, visit the sick in a hospital, pour a cement floor and attach a tin
roof, share Jesus with the people in an area that has never heard of Him, as
well as many other things. Most of our nights will be spent in a compound
just outside the village of Bobita, but during the day we will travel to
different locations along the northern coast. This work is part of a summer
mission program that started nine years ago that involves eight different
groups over the summer. Along with two missionary families we will also work
with six college age interns that will stay with us, help us, and guide us
in our work. Those going from Southside are John and Dustin Dickson, Bill
Eppler, Troy Jensen, Abby and Daryl Miller, Najya and LaTanja Mudd, Adam
Nichols, Evan Stanger, Alex and Karen Van Handel. Please keep us and this
mission effort in your prayers. His.... Daryl Miller
The Bulletin Board
New Storage
Building - Construction on our
new storage building is nearing completion. The building is located at the
northeast corner of our rear parking area. It will be used to store
equipment such as lawnmowers and furniture being donated for our benevolent
program. This will eliminate the problem of carrying heavy furniture to
the basement area for storage. It will also free a basement room for class
purposes if needed. Our thanks to John Dickson, the deacon in charge, for
all of his effort in getting this done. If you have furniture to donate
or know of someone in need of furniture, be sure to contact Juan Santana who
is directing the program.
We will have a "Farewell
Gathering" for Keith, Toni, and Levi Toombs during the fellowship time
after the first worship Sunday. This will be the last Sunday that the Toombs
family will be with us as they are moving to Texas. Though they have been
with us less than a year, they have been deeply involved with Southside
during that time. We wish them God's blessings as they take their leave.
Elders' Forum
- Every fifth Sunday night at 6:00 o'clock the elders address questions from
the congregation. On July 30th they will explain the ministerial
responsibilities shift for Daryl Miller and how we plan to address the needs
of our youth without a full-time youth minister.
There will be an elders and deacons meeting
at 4:30 p.m. Sunday

Congratulations
to the Elkhorn Church as it reaches a milestone this Sunday in the
appointment of elders. Those chosen are Jim Coehoorn and Jim Frost. We have
been financially assisting the church in Elkhorn for several years in
supporting Jim Coehoorn in evangelistic work and rejoice with them.
Praise and Palate
will be Sunday evening at 6:00 o'clock. The menu for the palate part is
"Patriotic Palate."
The Sheboygan
Church at 2750 Saemann Avenue will have a homecoming celebration on
Sunday, July 16th, marking the congregation's 50th anniversary.
Some who have worked with the church in the past will join them for an all
day program. (Editor's note: I had the honor of speaking at the first
service of the Shebaygan congregation on February 26, 1956 and am honored to
be invited to be one of the speakers at the anniversary celebration. M.H.)

The Tongue
"The boneless tongue,
so small and weak,
Can crush and kill,"
declared the Greek.
"The tongue destroys a
greater horde,"
The Turk asserts,
"than doth the sward."
A Persian proverb,
wisely saith,
"A lengthy tongue, an
early death."
Or sometimes takes
this form instead:
"The tongue can speak
a word whose speed,"
Say the Chinese,
"outstrips the steed."
While Arab sages this
impart:
"A tongue's great
storehouse is the heart."
From Hebrew wit the
maxim sprung, "
Though feet should
slip, ne'er let the tongue."
The sacred writer
crowns the whole:
"Who keeps the tongue
doth keep the soul."
