SOUTHSIDE ORACLE
April 28, 2006
The Bulletin Board
Elders' Forum -
Every fifth Sunday evening we have an elders' forum relating to spiritual
questions and issues. This Sunday night at 6:00 p.m. the forum will be about
efforts to promote unity, especially among congregations in the Restoration
Movement. Jesus prayed that his disciples might be one. How do we go about
promoting that unity? Join us as this and related questions will be
discussed.
Caribbean Luncheon
- In July about a dozen of our
youth and adults will take a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. To
promote this effort there will be a Dominican style luncheon after the
second worship Sunday. Everyone is invited to come and learn more about it
and pray for those who are going on the trip.
This Saturday is
clean up day on the church building grounds. Are you looking for a way
to get involved? Join us any time after 9:00 a.m. and lend a hand. Contact
John Dickson for details.
The Mother-Daughter
Banquet will be Friday, May 12th. It is important that those planning to
attend sign up on the sheet on the bulletin board by this Sunday. All girls
and women are invited.
Compassion Sunday
will be May 7th. Scott and Christine Saunders will present information about
Compassion International at a sign-up table in the fellowship room. This
Christian child development organization releases children from their
spiritual, economic and spiritual poverty. You will be given an opportunity
to become a compassion sponsor and change the world for one hurting child.

Strictly Personal
The letter was marked
"PERSONAL." Ordinarily this suggests that the sender wants no one else to
read it or that it is pornographic. Since I have never received anything in
the latter category, it might have been supposed that the letter was for my
eyes alone. But, alas! It was just another ad. I gave it my personal
attention and filed it in the wastebasket. I didn't appreciate being asked
to give personal attention to something the sender wasn't personal about.
So it is with our
presentation of the gospel of Jesus. We have something that merits the
personal attention of others. But do we present it in a personal way? Do we
communicate our message so that others will know that we are concerned about
them - personally? We need to let them know that we are interested in them -
their needs, their problems, their aspirations. We can show this by giving
them a ride to school or helping them paint their house or just being there
in time of grief. Then our message of hope will take on real meaning because
it is "strictly personal."
