The Bulletin Board

Youth Rally Report - "I would like to say thanks to the Southside family for your work at the Southside Youth Rally this past weekend. We had around 90 teens plus adults present. The meals, activities, the guest speaker fitted well together. I would like to express a special praise to your youth group for putting this together. They did a lot of work and it was a very successful weekend. Most of Wiley Lowe's lessons were recorded. For copies contact Joel Ribar. We also have some T-shirts left over. Please see me if you are interested. Thanks again." Daryl Miller.

Camp Notes - Tim Shilts of Southside is directing the junior session of the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp that runs from June 18 to July 1. He is soliciting staff help.  If you can help on the staff or might be able to do so, contact him for further information. Camp isn't that far away, so children who plan to attend should send in their reservations as soon as possible. Application forms are available at the church building. If there are potential campers in the church who do not have tuition, there is a scholarship fund for this purpose. Contact Wayne Alexander for details.

Address Change - Allen and Amanda Saunders. Contact us for details.

Fifth Wednesday Group Meeting - Every fifth Wednesday all of our midweek Bible study groups meet together at the church building. Next Wednesday, March 29th, three of our men will give presentations on "Living for Christ In the Workplace." The speakers will be Jerome Turman, Juan Santana, and Mark Orlovsky. Plan to attend.

Congregational Meeting - About three Sundays a year we have an afternoon congregational meeting. The next one will be April 2nd. As we usually do, there will be a single worship service that day with Bible classes beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 11:00 o'clock. This will be followed by a sandwich lunch and the congregational meeting. There will be no evening worship that day.

The Sick - Esther Gray had ear surgery last week and is recovering well.... Tim Wainscott's sister, Judy Jongkind, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer....The Dickson family is recovering from their auto accident last week.

On Friday, March 31st, the men from Southside will be having a men's night at Romine's, dinner at 6:00 p.m. with pool around 7:00 p.m. Come for either or both. See the men's bulletin board for sign-up sheet and directions or contact Brad Stanger.

Southside Retreat - The annual Memorial Day congregational retreat at Fallhall Glen will be the weekend of May 26-29. See Bill Eppler or John Dickson for details.

No Place Like Home

"Dear God, thank you that Rachel is back home again." I had to smile as my five-year old son, Luke, uttered the prayer. Like all siblings, Rachel and Luke have their moments of discord and it was gratifying to see that he had missed his big sister. But what really made me smile was that we were not home at all. We had stopped at camp to pick up Rachel on the way to my parents' house. As Luke delivered his evening petition to God, he was nestled in a strange bed miles from his own house.

It occurred to me that his conception of home was much larger than the way the term is often used. In many cases "home" is tied to structure - four walls that contain my belongings and provide a place for me to stay. But in Luke's mind, "home" was people. They were the folks in his life to whom he belonged.           Their geographic location at a particular point in time was irrelevant. "Home" was wherever his family happened to be.

I suppose it is the same for us all. Home is really that group of people to whom we belong. They may be spread out all over the globe, or we may see them together as we worship God, but home is people.
