Give Away Report -
Our annual Give Away was last Saturday and a great success. Over a hundred
people were waiting for us to open at 9:00 a.m. Within an hour two-thirds of
the hundreds of items were gone. There were fewer things left over when we
closed at 2:00 o'clock than in recent years. The Give Away began as an
outreach in 1982 and has been an annual event since then.
The Wisconsin
Christian Youth Camp annual
meeting will be held at the Mandrake Road Church in Madison at 10:00 a.m.,
Saturday. Reports on the status of the camp will be given and five board
members will be elected. Bobby Valentine currently represents Southside on
the board.
The new Hispanic
congregation that meets in our building on Sundays at 6:00 p.m. will have an
Inauguration Meeting in the auditorium at 1:00 p.m. Saturday followed by a
potluck at 3:00 p.m. People from other congregations will be attending. All
of us are invited to meet with them for fellowship.
It is time to start
our college care package program for our out-of-state college students.
Donation boxes are set-up in the foyer with directions for making a
contribution attached to each box. Tim Williams and Bethany Stanger will be
the recipients of our first two boxes. If you have any questions, please see
Colleen Windell. Thank you for your help.

Is Anyone
Listening?
The following
article contains two letters taken from The British Weekly.
`Dear Sir,
It seems that
ministers feel that their sermons are very important and spend a great deal
of time preparing them. I have been attending church quite regularly for 30
years and to my consternation, I cannot remember a single sermon. If wonder
if a minister's time might be more profitably spent on something else?
Sincerely..."
The letter produced a
real stir of editorial response as readers expressed their opinions. The
uproar was ended with this letter:
"Dear Sir,
I have been married
for 30 years and during that time I have eaten 32,850 meals. Mostly these
meals were cooked by my wife. Suddenly I have discovered that cannot
remember the menu of a single meal and yet I received nourishment from every
single one of them. I have the distinct impression that without them I would
have probably starved to death long ago.
Sincerely..."
