The Bulletin Board

The Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp will celebrate fifty years of youth camping on Saturday, September 3rd with a special program from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. at Fallhall Glen.  The first camp session of two weeks was held at Camp Bradfield northeast of Black River Falls in 1956. Five years later the rustic resort of Fallhall Glen, seven miles south of Black River Falls, was purchased for a permanent camp site. In 1961 two two-week camp sessions were held at Fallhall Glen, later increased to four sessions plus a family camp. Through the years hundreds of our Southside youth have attended the camp. The September 3rd celebration will coincide with the Labor Day Family Encampment. Plan to attend if you are interested.

W.C.Y.C honors - Two of our young people were chosen at the camp sessions for special recognition. Ian Ribar was selected as the best boy camper at intermediate camp and Jackie Slye was honored as Miss Fallhall Glen at the senior session.

Inter-congregational picnic - About thirty from Southside attended the picnic at Kletzsch Park last Saturday. Several hundred from a large number of congregations enjoyed the festivities.

The sick - Martha Sepulveda was released from St. Francis Hospital in the middle of last week, but had to return two days later with asthma problems. She went home Monday.

About fifteen of our families are camping together this weekend at Bluemound State Park.

Only Paper

Several years ago a friend of mine named Terri had the opportunity to visit the Federal Reserve in Kansas City. If you don't know what the Federal Reserve is, it is the place where the government keeps money. A lot of money. Stacks and stacks of tens, twenties, and hundreds.

Terri was standing (at an appropriate distance) and looking at millions, perhaps tens of millions of dollars in nice neat stacks. It was more money than would pass through her hands in a lifetime. After the first wave of awe passed, she had a different reaction. She told me later, "I looked at all that money and realized that it was only paper."

What a tremendous point of view! Money inspires covetous lust and dreams of opulent living. The love of money causes people to do things they would be ashamed of in any other circumstances. But at another level, it is only paper. Can you imagine anything more temporary, less fulfilling? `Do not store up for yourselves treasures an earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in an steal." After all, it is only paper.
