Youth Service Trip - Every summer, our youth, led by Daryl Miller, take a service trip to assist others in doing good. The trip this year is next week at Fallhall Glen. From Tuesday, July 5, to Sunday, July 10, a group of nine teens, four adults, and one pre-teen will be at the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp. They will be doing work projects for the camp and also lead the campers at the middle session in service projects. Please remember them in your prayers.

Camp News - The junior session at Fallhall Glen of the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp concludes this Saturday. Hannah Schraven has been one of the campers in addition to those previously listed. The two-week middle camp begins Sunday. Campers from here that we know plan to attend are Zachary Giemza, Sydney Miller, Rachel Orlovsky, Brandon Schraven, Hannah Shilts, Hailey Slye, and Kassanda Valencia. Nina Miller and Connie Slye will be serving on the staff.

The Labor Day Retreat at Fallhall Glen September 2 - 5 will feature Dale and Vicki Hawley who will be presenting a program called "The Balancing Act." The Sick -- Cheryl Morgan is not recovering from her recent surgery as quickly as had been hoped for. Anyone who can help her at home can call her at home.

Study Groups - The new midweek study group that meets in the Parker home in Trevor at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays is being very well attended by about five area families plus several neighbors. Since our membership is drawn from seven counties, we would like to start other groups in other areas. Any who would be willing to host such a group should contact Rocky Slaughter who is the deacon in charge of our small group program.

Our thanks to Kent Britton for his fine sermon last Sunday in Bobby Valentine's absence.

“What is W.C.Y.C?

Recently a number of new families have become a part of Southside. Additionally we have many visitors who have been attending our services. Sometimes we assume that newcomers know what is going an when we make announcements about activities. Actually, they may be in the dark about these things. Since the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp is in this category, we would like to explain what it is.

In 1956 a group of Christians from different parts of Wisconsin established a Christian youth camp to help our young people. The camp was organized as a nonprofit organization. Though not a part of the church, the camp provides a real service to churches in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois- For five years camp sessions were conducted at Camp Bradfield near Black River Falls. In 1961 the camp organization purchased Fallhall Glen, a rustic resort seven miles south of Black River Falls. It is about 440 acres of wooded hills with Robinson Creek cutting a glen through the heart of the camp as it rushes over two waterfalls. Four two-week sessions annually serve as many as 400 youth. Fallhall Glen also serves numerous other activities including Quest, a family camp in August, a family encampment over Labor Day weekend, and the Midwest Preachers' Retreat the last week of September. Southside has its own retreat over the Memorial Day weekend.

Southside members have actively participated in the camp since it began. Currently Bobby Valentine is a member of the thirteen-member board of the camp. A number of our members are serving an staff this year including Tim Shilts who directed this year's junior session. Many have given of their time to serve as registrar, work on staff, build bunk beds, or do other maintenance projects. Others have contributed financially to the camp's success, including those who have participated in the annual February dinner and auction at Southside. Hundreds of young people have been baptized in Robinson Creek. Countless lives have been changed in the last fifty years of the camp. If you would like to pay the tuition for a child who cannot otherwise afford to go to camp, give your donation to Wayne Alexander. Any child among us who needs a scholarship to a camp session will be given one. Those who need help should not hesitate to apply for a tuition scholarship and should also contact Wayne.
