The Bulletin Board

Baptized – Hailey Slye was baptized Sunday morning by Bobby Valentine.  We rejoice in her decision to accept Christ and pray that God will bless her in every way.

Congregational Meeting – This Sunday, June 12th, we will have a single morning worship service at 11:00 a.m.  There will not be a separate children’s worship as in the past.  Worship will be preceded by Bible classes at 9:30 a.m., but we will not have an 8:30 worship.  Following a sandwich lunch after worship, we will have a congregational meeting at about 1:00 p.m. to discuss the work of the church.  We encourage all to attend.  There will be no evening worship at 6:00 p.m.

Our Sympathy – We extend our condolences to Donna Wright and her family in the death of her son, William Moll, on June 3rd.  The funeral was conducted by Monroe Hawley Wednesday night at the Walloch Funeral Home.  Donna is a former Southside member who lives in Appleton, but she is considering returning to Milwaukee.

Building Improvement Day – Our young people are going to use this Saturday, June 11th, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as a time to spruce up our church building.  There is much to do on this clean-up day and everyone regardless of age is invited to help.  Come for as long as you can.

Spanish Speaking Ministry – The first meeting of the new Spanish Speaking Ministry was held at Southside Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. with a very good attendance.  These brethren will meet in the large room in the basement of the annex at the same time that we assemble in the fellowship area.  If you know of any who may be interested, we will be happy to contact them with the necessary information.

The junior session of the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp will begin June 19 and continue through July 2.  The session at Fallhall Glen will be directed by Tim Shilts from Southside.  There is a Southside tuition fund available for children who may need help in paying their way.  If you would like to contribute to this fund, see Wayne Alexander.  Any young person who needs help to attend any of the sessions should also let Wayne know.  We don’t want any child to be unable to go for financial reasons.

The Sick – Martha Sepulveda was hospitalized last week at St. Francis Hospital, but was released late in the week.  However, she suffered a relapse and had to return to the hospital two days later.  She was scheduled for a heart catheterization on Tuesday.

The Eternal Country

A mother was telling me about her young son’s flair for advertising.  She was an English woman by birth, but had been born on an Indian reservation. At school the boy told all his associates and teachers that his mother was a full-blooded Indian; and he believed that he was telling the truth.  It took a lot of reasoning to convince the boy that the place of birth had little to do with nationality.  His mother finally clinched the argument by asking, “If you were born in the ocean, would you be a fish?”

I was born in Japan.  My friends and companions plagued me incessantly with being a Japanese.  Now, I had no particular objection to the idea in general, but I wanted to be an American like the rest.  The matter troubled me deeply for a time until I hit upon the expedient of asking, “If you were born in a dog-kennel, would you be a dog?”  It appears that we all have the same experiences, and we all want to be what we are.  Each one considers his own country to be the best, and that is as it should be.

As Christians we have the same feeling of intense loyalty.  If we have been born of water and the Spirit, we are members of the kingdom of heaven.  Here, heredity, place, and blood do not control.  There is no distinction. Through union with Jesus Christ our Lord, we are all alike citizens of the eternal kingdom that can never fall.  We may contemplate with satisfaction this solid fact: If God has added us to His fold, no man can exclude us, “for the Lord knoweth them that are His.”
