The Bulletin Board

Baptized – Cecelia Christian was baptized by her father, Kim, last Sunday.  We pray that God will bless her as she begins her walk with Jesus.

Congregational Picnic – Our annual church picnic is this Sunday at Root River Parkway, area #2, following our second worship service.

Elders’ Forum – Every fifth Sunday evening our elders have a forum to respond to Biblical questions.  This Sunday night they will examine the different functions which the Lord’s Supper fills when we eat it together.  You will want to attend.

Congregational Meeting – On Sunday, June 12th, we will have a single morning worship service at 11:00 a.m.  There will not be a separate children’s worship as in the past.  Worship will be preceded by Bible classes at 9:30 a.m., but we will not have an 8:30 worship.  Following a sandwich lunch after worship, we will have a congregational meeting at about 1:00 p.m. to discuss the work of the church.  We encourage all to attend.

Congratulations Graduates!  We commend our four graduates on their graduation from their high schools.  They are: Zach Jensen, New Berlin Eisenhower; Jose Valdez, St. Francis; Tim Williams, Whitnall; and Chris Wagner, New Berlin West.

Building Improvement Day – Our young people are going to use June 11th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as a time to work on our church building.  There is much to do on this clean-up day and everyone regardless of age is invited to help.  Come for as long as you can.

The Southside retreat at Fallhall Glen over the Memorial Day weekend was a fine success.  The attendance was a little smaller due to the fact that it could not be scheduled until later than usual.  Our thanks to Wayne Alexander for directing it.

The Thursday morning ladies’ Bible class meets for the last time this week until it is resumed in September.

Spanish Speaking Ministry – Plans are being made to begin a ministry for those who speak Spanish directed by some brethren from the Chicago area.  Marcos Alicia is the local contact.  The group will meet at our building at 6:00 p.m. on Sundays, the time coinciding with our evening worship.

The junior session of the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp will begin June 19 and continue through July 2.  The session at Fallhall Glen will be directed by Tim Shilts from Southside.  There is a Southside tuition fund available for children who may need help in paying their way.  If you would like to contribute to this fund, see Wayne Alexander.  Any young person who needs help to attend any of the sessions should also let Wayne know.  We don’t want any child to be unable to go for financial reasons.

The Sick – Ed Dabbs’ mother, who lives in Dallas and is 101 years old, fell and broke her hip last week.

Karen Wagner is a student at UWM and is going with a student group to Europe for two months to study architecture.

The Lord Sent It

Years ago an old lady had no money to buy food.  She prayed, “Dear Lord, please send me a side of bacon and a sack of cornmeal.”  Over and over again she prayed the same prayer aloud.  One of the town’s unscrupulous citizens decided to play a trick on her.  He dropped a side of bacon and a sack of cornmeal down her chimney.  It landed in front of her as she knelt in prayer.

Jumping to her feet she exclaimed, “Oh, Lord!  You’ve answered my prayer.”  Then she went all over town telling everyone the great news.

This was too much for the scoundrel who dropped the food down her chimney.  He ridiculed her publicly and told her that God didn’t answer her prayer, but he did.  The old lady replied, “Well, the devil may have brought it in, but it was the Lord who sent it!”

God answers prayers in many ways.                                                 __Pulpit Helps
