“Does God Exist?”
Lectures
The
“Does God Exist?” seminar with John Clayton as the speaker and sponsored by
the Southside Church will be at Greenfield High School, 4600 S. 60th
Street, this Friday and Saturday evenings, April 29 & 30. The school is
located at S. 60th and Layton, just south of the 60th Street exit from I-43
& 894.
John
Clayton is a former atheist whose personal studies led him to the conviction
that there must be a God. As an ex-atheist and scientist he is well
prepared to deal with the challenges of unbelief. His lessons will include
these themes: “The Cosmos – a Proof of God’s Existence,” “The Source –
Design or Chance?” “The Nature of God,” and “Which God Are We Talking
About?” Each lecture will be followed by an extended question and answer
period.
The
program will be from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. on Friday and 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. on
Saturday. Additionally, there will be a special youth conference at the
Southside building for the youth from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. John
Clayton will also speak at the Sunday morning worship services and teach a
combined class for adults and young people at the 10:00 a.m. Bible class
period on Sunday. Be sure to attend!
The Bulletin Board
New Adult Classes – Every four months we have a new series of Sunday
morning adult Bible classes. The new series will begin May 8th, delayed one
week because of the Clayton lectures. The classes will be:
The Book of Joshua, taught by Bobby Valentine.
The Psalms, taught by Monroe Hawley.
The Gospel of Matthew, a continuation of the present study taught by
Wayne Alexander.
The
Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp Youth Rally over last weekend was
directed by Daryl and included about twenty-five from Southside. A total of
about 80 young people attended. Over one hundred in all attended the
program.
Camp Notes – The junior session of the Wisconsin Christian Youth Camp
at Fallhall Glen is fast approaching. Camp begins June 19 and Tim
Shilts of Southside will direct the junior camp. There will be four
two-week sessions running through August 13th. Adult staff help is needed.
If you would be interested in helping, contact Tim, even though you might be
interested in working at one of the other sessions. Camper application
forms are available at the church building. We usually have 25 – 30 campers
from Southside attending. If you would like to pay the tuition for a camper
who does not have the necessary funds, contact Wayne Alexander.
The
Grounds Clean-up last Saturday was postponed to a later date because of the
cold weather and strong winds.
The
Mother/Daughter Banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6th.

Coasting To a Stop
Did
you ever turn off your auto ignition and coast to a stop without applying
the brakes? If so, you know that while momentum carries the car a
considerable distance before it stops, it must eventually stop regardless of
the speed attained before the engine is shut off.
That
is the way it is with some Christians. After we have worked hard in the
Lord’s service we may begin to coast. We don’t stop immediately. Little by
little we attend the worship less frequently, give a little less, work a
little less. Oh, yes! We are still “faithful” Christians, but we’re
coasting on our momentum. Eventually we will stop if we don’t restart our
engines. Then others will wonder why we have quit. The reason? We quit
working and started coasting. Better to be a “weak” Christian with a
sputtering engine than a “strong” one who is coasting. Though the strong
one is going faster, he will eventually stop and may be lost while the weak
one will gain speed and be saved. __Monroe
