Board
Identified – We welcome into our fellowship Kent and Traci Britton who
placed membership with us last Sunday. They have three children.
McMillions moving – Dana and Debbie are moving to Little Rock,
AR next week. We will miss them greatly. Dana has been an elder for four
years and they have both been intimately involved in all of our work in
the church. We wish them God’s blessings. There is a going-away party in
their honor Saturday at 6:00 p.m. For details contact Wayne Alexander or
Denise Eppler.
The fifth Wednesday joint meeting of our midweek study groups will not
be held June 30th because of so many time conflicts.
Sunday speakers – Our speakers scheduled for this Sunday are Monroe
Hawley at the morning services and Daryl Miller in the evening.
The sick – Sandi Copass’ mother fell from a ladder last week and broke
her hip in three places and is convalescing at home.

No Fable
It
is not infrequently that I read in a newspaper an article by some young
writer who dabbles with past events with which he is not familiar. That
which we have not experienced we have the tendency of relegating to the
realm of the legendary. Such an item is the following:
“Legend has it that once when Babe Ruth was in a tight spot at the ball
park he walked up to the plate, pointed over the home run fence, hefted
his bat and sent the ball precisely where had had pointed. Fact says
that…”
And there the writer goes on to describe an event of a different character
which he had just witnessed the night before. It does not make any
difference what the fact was. The contrast of legend with fact was merely
used to add emphasis to the story.
But, the Babe Ruth story was not a
legend, even though it has grown to legendary proportions. The story is
fact. I was an eyewitness. I can still hear the howl of that Chicago
mob as the babe, with two strikes, lifted the ball over the faraway
fence to
which he had pointed. I know the event took place.
I was there.
And so with Peter. He attempted to impress his fellow Christians with the
truth of his testimony on the basis that he was there. He had witnessed
the power of the Lord Jesus. “For we have not followed cunningly devised
fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus
Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.”
I
believe Peter was there. I have complete faith in his testimony regarding
the grace of God through Jesus Christ our Lord. We cannot – we must not –
refuse that grace.

McCaleb in What Is Your Life?
A Time to
Remember
Last Sunday Roger Young reminded me that
it was thirty-two years ago on that day, June 20th, that I
baptized him into Christ. Many of us wouldn’t remember the precise date
of our spiritual birthday, but we do remember the circumstances of the
event. Such an occasion is a time for us to reflect on where we stand in
our relationship with God. How much have I matured in Christ? Is my
faith stronger? Is God in control of my life? Have I become an
instrument of the Lord to share the good news with others? And what lies
ahead for me in His service? Take time to remember!
