Vol. 46, No. 49
SOUTHSIDE ORACLE February 27, 2004
The Bulletin Board
Congregational Meeting – There will be a congregational meeting Sunday
about 1:00 p.m. following a sandwich lunch after the second service. All
members are encouraged to attend. A report will be made on the proposal to
purchase land that was approved at the special meeting on February 15th.
Picture Taking – We
have a picture board in the foyer that displays our families. We need to
bring it up-to-date by adding many who are not pictured. Cliff Copass will
be taking pictures Sunday in the fellowship area behind the auditorium after
the worship services and Bible classes. If we don’t have your photo, be
sure to have it taken.

Camp Banquet and Auction Report – Over 100 attended the annual W.C.Y.C.
Banquet and silent auction last Saturday. Though the final results are not
in, we exceeded the goal of $3000 for the camp. We appreciate the families
that helped to make it a success, especially the Alexanders who directed the
program and the Tim Shilts who did the cooking.
Care Packages – Each month we send care packages to those away at
school. If you would like to donate this month to Tarah Jensen and Will
Carpenter, put your items in the box in the foyer.
Address Change – Julie King (contact
us for details).
Worship Is a Habit
Yes, worshiping God is a habit! Not just a
habit, for it is much more than that. We worship not as a routine, but in
accordance with the divine will. Still, worship is a habit.
Almost everything we do is a habit. We eat and go to
bed about the same time every day. We brush our teeth daily. We seldom
vary our route to work. We shop at the same stores and trade at the same
service stations.
Habits can be good or bad. Once formed they are hard
to break. A major problem for the smoker trying to give up
cigarettes is his habit of reaching for a smoke. It takes time and effort
to overcome this habit that is deeply ingrained in his lifestyle.
Worshipping God is a good habit. If we value our
souls it is essential – as important to the soul as eating is to the body.
As we cannot do without food, we cannot do without worshiping God. One can
physically exist without God, but if he does not take time to serve his
Maker, he will lose his soul for want of effort.
People have often remarked, “I used to go to church
regularly, but I just got out of the habit.” They mean that after absenting
themselves for a few weeks it became easy to miss regularly. The longer
they stay away, the harder it is to come back. In fact, many never do!
Most who no longer love God enough to worship him (can you honestly say you
love him if you will not worship him?) did not intend to get out of the
habit the first time they missed. But once they broke the worship habit,
they replaced it with a “no worship” habit. Don’t jeopardize your soul by
breaking your worship habit! __Monroe E. Hawley
