THINK ABOUT IT

Waiting on the LORD

I’ve come to the conclusion that one thing most people hate is waiting. Maybe it is because we live in a culture of microwave ovens, fast food, one-hour photos, minute rice, and high speed internet connection. Granted, I’m a patient person but it drives me crazy when I’m waiting at a stop light, it turns green and the person in front of me is so busy talking on her cell phone that I have to wait. AHHHHH! (I’m over that though.)

Being impatient with traffic or a slow internet connection is one thing but learning to wait on God is another. Do you ever wish God would hurry up and answer your prayers? Do you every wish He would just get on with it and tell you what to do? The truth is WAITING is hard. Not only is it contrary to our impatient society, it is something the Bible teaches us that when we do it, God not only takes care of us but he blesses us as well.

lsaiah 40:31But they who WAIT for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Revised Standard Version)

Did you notice what it says will happen when we wait for the Lord? Waiting on the Lord is like getting a second wind and having even more energy than you did at first. It promises we will not get tired or lag behind.

But what does it mean to “wait on the Lord”? Maybe the best way to think of this “waiting” is a child waiting for Christmas. He knows he’s going to get something very special. He may even ask his parents, “What did you get me?” or “Can I have my presents early?” This waiting process may even seem ridiculous and pointless to him. But when that final moment he has waited for comes, and he receives what he has longed for there is so much joy.

We need to learn to wait on the Lord. We need to trust Him to give us what we long for in His time and not ours. God loves us and will make us soar like eagles if we will just wait for Him to do things on His schedule.

As you struggle with physical needs- WAIT on the Lord. He will provide you what you need. As you struggle with decisions- WAIT on the Lord. He will provide you guidance. As you struggle with temptation- WAIT on the Lord. He will provide you a way out. And after you’ve waited on the Lord, know that He will bless you beyond your imagination.

Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the LORD's help; then he listened to me and heard my cry. He pulled me out of a dangerous pit, out of the deadly quicksand. He set me safely on a rock and made me secure. He taught me to sing a new song, a song of praise to our God. Many who see this will take warning and will put their trust in the LORD. (New International Version)

Psalm 52:9 I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones. (New American Standard Version)
