THINK ABOUT IT

GOD IS WATCHING YOU

As I grew up one of the thing that drove me crazy was when my brother, who is six years younger than I, would tag along when I did things. Don’t take me wrong, I loved my little brother (and still do) but it was horrible when he would try to hang out with my friends and me. I just knew he was going to tell my parents what I had said or done. Not that we ever did anything worth telling but just in case- I didn’t want him to get me in trouble.

In John 20:28, just before Jesus returns to heaven He told his disciples to hang in there and “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” God also promises that those that repent and are baptized will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38). Hebrews 12:1 talks about how we are “surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.” And don’t forget how Hebrew 132 talks about how some people entertain angels without even being aware of it. In other words, you may think you are alone right now but you really aren’t. While many times these things can make people very uncomfortable- kind of like having a little brother tagging along, the truth is they are meant help us do what we know is right and give us comfort.

If the Holy Spirit is inside of me (and I know He is), then there are some things I should and shouldn’t do because the Holy Spirit should and shouldn’t go to those places. For example, there are certain websites I should NOT go to, there are certain words I should NOT say, and there are thoughts I should NOT think about women I am not married to. Like wise there are certain things I SHOULD do. I SHOULD do nice things for people that annoy me. I SHOULD show respect to people who have authority. I SHOULD pass on the video game and spend more time reading the Bible.

Also, the fact that Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the angels, and these witnesses are all with me should give me courage. Courage to do what is right because I am not alone, courage to stand boldly against Satan because I know I have their power filling my life, and courage to not give up, even when I am tired. It is kind of like having your very own cheer leading squad watching you compete.

So think about what you are going to do in the next day or so. Are you plans fitting for the company you will be taking with you? How can they help you do those things? Remember, just because you don’t think about them doesn’t mean they aren’t there. As Paul told the Ephesians, “I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” (Ephesians 4:1). Hang in there and know that the fact that God is watching you is something good.
