I HAVE A DREAM...

Hello, it's Daryl again. I want you to know a little about what I believe. The following is what my dream for what I hope to achieve with our youth ministry:

I see the youth ministry as part of the church which is the "family of God." I'd like a "family feel" to characterize our group. I want everyone to feel cared for & loved. I want the participants to feel that the youth group is a place where they can share their deepest joys & sorrows. I want the group members to develop at least two or three intimate, caring friendships. These friends would be the kind who would get out of bed at 1 a.m. if necessary to help in a crisis. I want new kids to feel at home in the group, where no one can distinguish the "in" group from the "out" because there isn't one.

I'd also like to see the group members excited about their relationship with Christ. I want them to openly express their questions, be enthusiastic about their faith, and feeling comfortable in the group so that they can share their excitement at one meeting or be subdued as they want at another meeting without feeling like a second-class Christian. I'd like the people in the group to understand better who Jesus Christ the person is. Also, I'd like their Christian faith not to be a religion, but a life long, dynamic, growing, maturing relationship with the Lord of their lives.

I'd like to see the youth group members excited about making a difference in the world. I want them to discover their unique gifts & abilities, & desire to use them to advance the kingdom. I envision young people having compassion for the hurting and disposed and using their creativity & commitment to make a difference in the world. I'd like to see the young people in the group increasing in wisdom, stature & favor with God & others.

I'd like to see them maturing in their relationship to Christ, to each other & to the world. I'd like the students to understand & experience joy & fun. I want them to be able to honestly say: "I'm glad I'm part of this group. It means so much to me."

As a youth minister, my goals are to help the youth grow in wisdom & stature & in favor with God & men. The activities we have are meant to help us reach these goals.

I do believe another way, perhaps the best way to do this is by example and so I want to pledge my commitment to you, to be developing these areas in own my life. (Although I may mess up, I will keep trying.)

I love young people very much and enjoy being a youth minister. Please know that my door is always open and I hope you feel free to contact me anytime.
