Pass It On – September 4, 2022

2 Tim. 1:1-5

I’m quite excited to begin a new series this Sunday (9/4) on 2 Timothy, where we’ll be for the rest of 2022 and a few weeks into 2023.

It’s my opinion that 2 Timothy was Paul’s final letter before he was beheaded in the mid/late 60’s. He wrote this letter from prison (2 Tim. 1:8; 1:16; 2:9; etc.), and his major concern is not for his own well-being, but for the advancement of the gospel, for the faith to be passed on, a role which Paul’s spiritual son (Timothy) is to carry on, equipping others to do the same. Paul, however, is not the only one who shaped Timothy’s faith. Of huge significance in Timothy’s life were two godly women, his grandmother (Lois) and his mother (Eunice), mentioned in the opening verses of 2 Timothy. They passed on a faith that Timothy received and made his own, and we must do likewise. We’ll discuss this in this lesson, and I’ll also introduce the book.
