2 Tim. 1:5-8
There’s oh-so-much goodness in this passage! Case in point: John Calvin (1509-1564), in his expository sermons on 2 Timothy, broke these verses up into four parts and preached one sermon on 1:6-8, a second sermon on 1:8-9; a third sermon on 1:9-10; and a fourth on 1:11-12. In this passage, Paul issues a call to Timothy, and it’s a call many might shy away from: “Join with me in suffering for the gospel” (1:8). Why would one say “yes” to such an invitation? It must be because the gospel is worth suffering for.
