(1 Tim. 1:18-20)
3 times in 1 Timothy chapter 1 (1:3, 1:5, 1:18), Paul mentions the word “command” (some versions translate “charge”). Timothy must battle against false teaching (1:3), carrying on the wishes of his father in the faith (Paul). “Battle” makes clear that the Christian life is a war; war against the flesh, war against the spiritual forces of evil that show up everywhere. This week, God’s word will equip us to “fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience.” Some give up (check out Hymenaeus and Alexander in the passage); don’t let it be you. And hmmmm…what does verse 20 mean??
