Dealing With An Unjust World- 05/02/21

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 8:1-17

Speaker:  Jeff Hill

The lack of justice is most often felt in relation to the dynamic of power seeking and grabbing.  When power becomes a god it’s antithesis is weakness.  In this broken world, being weak is the worst and having power over the weak is the best.  Power is then equated with personal worth.  Power in any form automatically makes a person better than those with less.
The god of power is served through accumulating more than… by doing more than…, knowing more than…, experiencing more than…, owning more than…, controlling more than…, accomplishing more than….  Much injustice and demeaning of those considered weaker has been sacrificed to the god of power in hope that, in return, the god will validate their worth and be exalted.
A god that devalues others for its glory sounds more like the devil.  He seeks to create disorder where God seeks to bring peace.  Consider the areas of life where you look to in finding validation and worth.  Why do you pursue power?  How do you pursue power? How often have you been the sacrifice on another person’s alter of power?  What does the good news of Jesus do in turning power and injustice on its head?
