Scripture: Esther 2:19 – 3:15
Speaker: Patrick Bowman
Some of God’s people, formerly exiled because of their sin, have chosen to remain in a foreign land, where their religious identity sets them apart from other nations. A materialistic and pleasure-seeking king blindly gives permission to Haman, an enemy of the Jews, to completely destroy them (think genocide), and in a crisis of this magnitude, where is God? (His name does not appear in the entire book of Esther!) In moments of injustice and abuses of power, when things turn out very differently than we expected them to, what do we do and where do we turn? With the title of the sermon in mind, may I suggest reading or listening to the entire book of Esther (a 30 minute read) and reflecting on moments in the narrative (and in the narrative of your own life) in which God was hard to find. How does the cross fit in with all of this?
